I know this has be debated at length and I tried to do a search but there is something wrong with the funciton tonight and I keep getting an error message.

I thought the last "vote" was that empty stomach cardio in the morning was a bad thing to do (as in muscle wasting/bad for the body). The latest issue of Oxygen says all the fitness competitors do early morning empty stomach cardio to burn off the fat.

What to the women here do?

thanks for your replies

30 mins. traditional cardio on an empty stomach is fine. However, if you plan on doing HIIT, then you should certainly eat before you do that.

I try to get in 2 sessions of cardio in a day, with weights in between my cardio sessions. I have had the best results that way.

In the morning I am so used to eating, I would wake up hungry. So before I go to the gym (luckily its only 5 min walking distance from me) I eat 2 table spoons of low fat cottage cheese and it helps curb the hungar pains.

I also have a liter of water by then...water is always filling.

Cheers!

By doing HIIT on an empty stomach, you will burn more muscle than fat. Your goal is to burn fat so I would really suggest you do 1 of 2 things.

Traditional Cardio on Empty Stomach or HIIT but not on an empty stomach.

For fat loss, IMO, you are better off with HIIT but seriously consider the loss of LBM if you perform it on an empty stomach. Why burn the precious muscle you have gained when fat loss is what you want? HIIT on an empty stomach is just plain stupid and pointless.

Singing the same song as the choir of response to this thread. Always eat and use recovery aides, dissolved in your hydration medium of choice, to thwart muscle being used as an energy source during cario.

I've taken the editors of Oxygen to task several times for misguiding readers through technical inaccuracies or misattributions in their articles.
