Just to let you all know raw eggs have an enzyme in them which stops the body being able to use the protein, its not untill you cook them that you break the enzyme down and are able to digest the protein.

On a seperate subject, i hate the tast of eggs, but want to be able to eat them. any ideas what i can do so i dont taste them? cheers : )

It's a good question as to whether or not raw eggs are better or not as far as there usablity rating for the body, but I would assume since eggs are the most bio-available protein that the body can consume that they would be pretty descent for digestion whole as long as they are not contaminated with some bacteria. But I really doubt the theory that there is an enzyme in the egg that makes it unsuitable for digestion. Where did you hear that information, for I'd like to cross reference it? Your stomach contains all the enzymes it needs to digest proteins, the enzyme is called pepsinogen and it is released from chief cells in the stomach. When the enzyme is released into the stomach it transforms into what we call pepsin the active portion of the enzyme that cleaves proteins into smaller portions, amino acids and polypeptides. The smaller protein fragments are moved into the small intestine to be processed further by proteolytic enzymes like trypsin and chymotrypsin secreted by the pancreas which cleave off the proteins into smaller peptides.
The brush border enzymes carboxypeptidase, aminopetidase, and dipeptidase splits off the remaining amino acids one at a time. Then they are absorped by the blood stream on small carriers, coupled to the active transport of sodium. So if there was an enzyme that could preventively block all these enzymes, then maybe egg proteins could be less effective at being absorbed. However more likely is the fact that eggs may have much more protein than can be broken down in a certain amount of time. If digestion takes a certain amount of time and the enzymes can't break down enough amino acids fast enough they won't be absorbed. This is my hypothesis, which may be wrong, but considering that when you cook eggs, you break down some of the proteins into smaller fragments so you can digest them easier. Simple huh?

i have a degree in nutrition and what you say about the body is correct, but without getting my books out and quote stuff for you the body is not able to digest raw eggs for protein. and yes eggs are not a good form of protein nor is soya for the human body and for bodybuilders, stick wit meat and whey.

Shit....I just built myself a diet mainly around the protein found in egg whites. Can anyone confirm that this kind isn't the best for bodybuilding? What to do with my 4 dozens of eggs now......lol
