Probably should have used my brain and decided to take the day off after getting under 4hrs of sleep.
Went in to do deadlifts, shoulders and core work today. Managed to crank out a new PR for DL (for only one rep), but then failed at even lifting 30lbs less than my usual DL weight. Had to take it down by 45lbs just to crank out 5 reps.
Shoulder dumbbell press went down 5lbs each. Military press 15lbs down.
I know why I had a bad day - it's stress, work and lack of sleep. But what do you all do about it?
My approach is to go into the next week pretending that workout never happened and resume at the same weight as 2 weeks ago. I'm curious to find out what you guys do.
I just deal with it some days are good and some are bad usually if I dont drink enough water or miss a meal I regret it in the gym but thats the way it go's
Yea just blow it off man, it's done.
The only thing you can do is make sure next time you get enough sleep and are prepared and fired up.
Besides, give yourself credit. Some guys just would have said fuck it. But you went in and did the best you could under the circumstances.
Turn that negative into a positive and be better for it next time.
Even when there are days i dont want to go,because of stress-life issues in general or just tired
i try to go any way even if im not as strong or aggressive, but i feel like i did somthing
I try to listen to my body and am careful of feeling-emotions or my excuses, because i chose this and committed my self to it.
What helps me is that a very small percentage of the population dont workout period and dont care value ther health.
the majority of the population is obese, unhealthy, overweight
So the way i see it im in the top10% doing some good and positive and like what im doing
We are elite ! when u look n the mirror bro ur a rhino with thick skin and dont stop for nuthn...anything n ur way u run it over and when u achieve ur hunt for the day goin through the jungle of life...itz all worth it getnbig and strong:owned::cool::o:winkfinger:
I've stopped even trying to push myself through a truly bad day. If I am struggling, I usually just call it quits, and come back the next day stronger and more motivated. I used to feel the pressure to hit a certain mark (often and arbitrary one set by me) every workout, and I had a complete transformation in the gym when I stopped doing this, listened to my body, and just went with the flow. So as others said, don't sweat it, brother!

I agree... just put it behind you... i have had days where I'm there 30 minutes and I'm like any am i even here... i just go home i can work out another day
If im having a bad day, i lift with less weight and more reps..that way i dont get too discourged....
I hate having bad days In the gym, I'm pretty hard on myself so when I pull up under a BB and the weight seems heavier then it normally would it pisses me off....but to stay productive ill drop a few lbs off and pump out reps. Log the workout and know that in 6-7 days I'm gonna come back and make up for it. What else can a guy do, your gonna have bad days, wks due to stress, sleep,diet....I will agree with Chucky , if I miss a meal or lag on H2o my lifts do feel it the same day.
I forget it happened and go at it again the next time w heavier weights
I can usually tell before I hit the gym if its gonna be a bad day or not. So I'll justify it by turning it into a cardio or low weight high rep day. Makes me feel better lol.
I usually know why I've had a bad day and try not to let it get to me. Depends on my mood I guess. Sometimes it really bothers me and other times I just don't worry about it. No reason to be really hard on yourself, I mean there is always tomorrow. Usually if I'm weaker its because I didn't eat enough.....which I'm weak as hell now cuz I'm cutting lol the gram of prop makes me feel happy and pumped up though 🙂
Just as others have stated..I can tell when it's gonna be a rough gym day. I lighten the weight, pump out more reps and try to stay as positive as possible. Bad days suck! Period.
Don't let it mess with you. Some days are better than others. True improvement in made over months or years. Not days.
when i have a bad day - it's usually a deadlift workout. i think i have A.D.D., because when i don't do well in the gym, ii resort to trying to find another deadlift routine when i should really just stick to one
Lol, I know this all too well ,my job can lead too long hours and tons of mental stress sometimes. And on those days I force myself in the gym too get a ass kicking lol. I view it as ,if I can force myself threw this shit today ,feeling the way I do ,,,I'll have a great workout when I'am on my game ,,,and it works out . I feel that these days are just as benaficial as the days I feel I can lift the house .
