Literally...I've taken the advice about protein intake within an hour after a workout being optimum. My body hates it. I've been forcing myself to drink a protein shake, and eat a high protein meal immediately after workouts.
I literally walk around in circles trying not to throw up for about 25 minutes afterword. I've worked out fasted my whole life. And when I get done working out, I'm not hungry for a while after. I think it's a natural reaction to intense workouts. Like a fight or flight response. You can't really run around on a full stomach.
Anyway, does anyone else run into this? I've been sticking to it, because from all you massive bros say, and from all I've read, protein within an hour of working out is optimal. But it hasn't gotten any easier for me.
I think it's working, because I've been seeing some solid mass gains so I'm gonna stick with it. But any advice is welcome.
Hey bro. As you mentioned, studies show that the quick absorbing protein is important post workout, but I if it is causing you this much pain, drop it right away. Can you eat 4-5 meals per day? Can you get somewhere between 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight over the course of those 5 meals? If so, drop that garbage and make your stomach feel better. I only use protein powder when I'm in a pinch or haven't eaten enough that day. I get my protein from my diet only most days

Have you looked into humapro? ive been using it for almost a year. Havent touched whey since.
Gotta agree with GSR Johnny- if it's causing that much discomfort/issues may wanna drop it for awhile. Are you doing your shake with water only? If not this could be a option to try. You could also incorporate some BCAA's during your workout to help hold you over some and eat after your workout once your stomach can handle it. If you spent most your life working out on an empty stomach it's become a custom to this and changing it could take sometime...i see quite a few guys here prefer working out on an empty stomach and I just can't do it, I literally feel weaker.
This^^^, i eat big before and after training then a shake hour after post workout meal. I'm the opposite i simply cannot train without food in my stomach.
Been drinking bcaas pre, during, and post. Shake is mixed with water. Just want to take advantage of this cycle the best I can so I'm reluctant to go back to my old ways. Trying not to be stubborn, listen to experience, and not learn shit the hard way like I always do.
But I think I'll take Gsr's suggestion and focus more on amount of protein rather than timing. I definately get 1 gram of protein per pound of lbm per day, but sometimes I struggle to get above that. Even though I think my appetitie has increased while on, I'm trying to make sure it's a lean bulk w a really clean diet. I track everything. Even water intake.
