It all depends on what time of the year it is... I tend to drop 20-30lbs around summer for the beach, then after that it's all out size and strength.

30lbs?? What're your thoughts on lean bulking? Not effective enough?

Lifting for aesthetics and strength is just a side effect.

After losing 60lbs of fat, I only cared about gaining strength. But then you realize, strength gains do not equate to aesthetics. Now, I just lift to get bigger after establishing a proper strength base. People forget that a stronger muscle is almost always a bigger muscle, like Phil Heath says. That being said, heavy triples on compounds lift don't really do shit in terms of building a good looking back, chest or legs... :wits:

initially (early 1990's), i wanted to get bigger, then leaner, and that repeated itself several times. i'd say in the last 2-3 years, i've been trying to gain more strength in the basics with low reps and mixing in "lighter reps" on assistance work; i like a little speed work as well. As it is, i'm pretty sure i fuarkked my SI joint up with DL's - so now im thinking, it might be time to lay off the hard, grinding reps

Like Kai Greene said "I'm a bodybuilder, I never want to be a weightlifter." You don't have the lift the world to move it.

I started out to get bigger for fighting, as I was an undersized heavyweight. Now i lift for pure strength gains, also it is still fun to grab onto guys and have them just look at you like, holy shit this guy is strong.

Only for Aesthetic look, I could care less if I could bench 125 or 325
